Connecting Ottoman Empire with Europe...

 

The Ottoman Empire was one of the most powerful states in the world, so it was able to control parts of other countries; such as Southeast Europe.

 

 

 

 



Historical Figures of the Ottoman Empire

Mehmed II -Ruled from 1444 to 1446
Mehmed II was a statesman and a military leader. He was also interested in
literature, fine arts and monumental architecture. He took the name "conqueror" (faith) after the conquest of Istanbul on 29th May 1453.

Selim I -Ruled from 1512 to 1520
He extended the empire to Syria, the Hejaz, and Egypt and raised the Ottomans to leadership of the Muslim world.

Mecca and Medina...The two most Holiest cities of Islam

Mecca: The Holiest City in Islam

The Prophet Muhammad designated Mecca as the holy city of Islam and the direction, in which all Muslims should offer their prayers. Each year, thousands of Muslims from around the world join together to Mecca in fulfillment of one of the Five Pillars of Islam.

Medina: City of Prophet

Medina is the second holiest city of Islam. Medina was the city that Muhammad went to when he was first driven out of Mecca, and the place where he attracted his first followers. Medina currently has a population of about 600,000 people and is the home of "The Prophet's Mosque." Medina was described a city, that was divided.

Suleyman Vs. Soloman!

Suleyman was sultan of the Ottoman Empire from 1520 to 1566 who not only created new military campaigns but also made the, of what came to be, regarded as the most characteristic achievements of Ottoman civilization in the fields of law, literature, art, and architecture. Suleyman also completed the task of transforming the previously Byzantine city of Constantinople into Istanbul, a worthy center for a great Turkish and Islamic empire.

Solomon was the son of King David and Bathsheba, Solomon ruled Israel from about 960 to 922 B.C. and built a magnificent temple in Jerusalem which housed the Ark of the Covenant. Solomon reportedly had hundreds of wives and concubines, including the daughter of the pharaoh of Egypt. He also had a famous meeting with the Queen of Sheba who, after seeing his wealth and wisdom, gave him many gifts.

Did you know that he had 700 wives and 300 concubines???!!! That is so GROSS!!

Women in the Ottoman Empire were treated like better than Americans??...Can you believe it!!?!?

Women in the Ottoman Empire were given freedom. They had freedom to work where they wanted and freedom to their own land. In the Ottoman Empire, women had better rights than the women throughout Europe and then America during the same time period. There were no laws that limited the rights if women. Women could work anywhere they wanted, but mostly they worked in commercial cities where they could be with other women in the same situation. Upper class women often managed businesses and controlled wealth. "Sultanate of Women" was the period in the Ottoman Empire where women had enormous power over the affairs of the state.

The Art and Architecture was UNBELIEVEABLE!!!!!!

This is the best thing that I have seen all day!

The art/architecture that was made in the Ottoman and Safavid empires was out of this world!
